GOAL
The goal of CIPOA conference is to gather scientists, scholars, and professionals to present their research findings and discuss future directions and opportunities concerning the fundamentals and application of Advanced Oxidation Technologies in the environmental, energy and climate sectors, towards a sustainable and carbon-neutral circular economy. Early-career scientists are specially invited to participate and enjoy the opportunity of networking with senior scientists, industry professionals, government officials and representative stakeholders from the public community. The meeting is an international forum of discussion on breakthrough science and technology on themes related to advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs), high-frequency ultrasound, ozonation processes, and their integration with other physical/chemical and biological processes. Additional topics of interest include techno-economic analysis of industrial and commercial processes for the treatment of soil, water, wastewater, and air. Emerging topics related to wastewater resources recovery, as also organic synthesis, H2 generation and CO2 photoreduction using photocatalytic/electrocatalytic routes are also welcome.
HISTORY
The first CIPOA conference was organized and chaired by Prof. Otidene Rocha in 2013 in the beautiful city of Recife, Brazil. It was held jointly with the seventh EPOA conference. The EPOA meeting (the Brazilian meeting on Advanced Oxidation Processes) was created in 2001 by the research group of Prof. Wilson Jardim, from Campinas University, Brazil. The meetings were held biannually. The three first EPOAs were organized by Prof. Wilson Jardim, the fourth and fifth EPOAs by Prof. Renato Freire, all of them in the São Paulo state. The sixth EPOA was organized by Prof. Márcia Dezotti, in 2011, in Rio de Janeiro, where it was deliberated the creation of the Iberoamerican Conference on Advanced Oxidation Technologies (CIPOA).
The second CIPOA, together with the eighth EPOA, was chaired by Prof. Camila Amorim in the year of 2015, in the amazing city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. In this meeting, all members of the International Scientific Committee decided unanimously that the next conferences would be designated only CIPOA and held every two years, in November. Additionally, it was decided that CIPOA conferences would be held in Brazil every four years, and in the middle, the conference would be held in a different Iberoamerican country, with exception of Portugal and Spain, since there are many conferences in Europe related to AOTs. Countries that are eligible to hold CIPOA meetings include Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The third CIPOA was chaired by Prof. Ricardo Torres-Palma, in 2017, in the charming city of Guatapé, near Medellin, Colombia. The last meeting, IV CIPOA, was chaired by Prof. Carlos Martínez-Huitle, in the year of 2019, in the sun-bathed coastal city of Natal, Brazil.
